This thriller came out in 1986. I was thinking about it the other day on account of the terrifying epigraph I chose: “To right a wrong it is necessary to exceed the proper limits, and the wrong cannot be righted without the proper limits being exceeded.” – Mao Zedong

I wanted the title to be plural – Red Messages – but the publisher insisted on singular. Who knows why? I now know this kind of thing happens not infrequently in this biz. I just blunder on.
