And now my number one favorite Chet and Bernie mystery cover! It just happens to be the next one (in a series that can be read in any order). Loving whatever’s coming next is a very Chet-like thing. For those of you who don’t know the series, all the books are narrated by Chet. He’s a dog but NOT a talking one! (Pub date April 14 2026, and now preorderable.)
Phriday Photos will not appear this week b/c no one sent in anything about anything to peter.b.abrahams@gmail.com.

Greetings!
A fun cover!
April 14, 2026 is a long time to wait…
Good Friday to all!
Good day to all.
Paw still bothers me.
Sorry, been busy. Spent a day at Discount Tire after a blowout on the freeway. Should never have happened. I’ve been having my tires rotated regularly. They were only 5 years and 8 months old and only 21,500 miles on them. They were supposed to last 40,000 miles. I’ve only been driving less than 4,000 miles a year so it’s not like they’ve been getting a lot of use.
Lots of time on the phone making appointments and calling customer service.
Then there is the house. Still can’t build the last two raised beds as the grass doesn’t show signs of dying and I’ve sprayed it three times now. I’ve been pruning the back and almost done. Clearing some of the dirt off of the back oval patio which I have relaid as far as I can until I get rid of all of the old fence boards. I’ve got seedlings that need to be planted soon and I’ve started more.
The fence is on hold for now. I will have to replace the north gate first as it has fallen apart and so is unusable. It’s just wedged in the opening for now.
Watering the orchard and potted plants takes a while and it is not a favorite activity but I continue on as I bought French tarragon and French thyme plants and I am determined they not die now that I am using both more often for cooking. I have to buy fresh from the store until mine are large enough for harvest.
After three attempts I still have not managed to propogate my Champagne Cocktail rose, which may be why both nurseries that list them continue to be out of stock. I shall soldier on. One of them also lists the Snowfire rose but is continually out of stock. For over three years now. I’ve written them twice and am told it is still growing but now updates on when it will be available. So I bought one off Bonanza from a little nursery in Texas. The Snowfire Rose I bought from Tan’s Treasures (MYeNursery) and listed on Bonanza and eBay is NOT a Snowfire Rose and they are not replying to my complaint so I have given them a deadline and then will be contacting PayPal. They are sucking up a lot of my time.
Other than that the weather is great for working except for the occasional spikes in temperature. We’ve got another one coming up. Next week. Two days of 80, but it hasn’t been impacting the garden. The lettuce is doing fine and I have strawberries that are starting to ripen. The birds have noticed so I will have to put a net over the garden. This year instead of netting the trees I am going to try using small gift bags on the branches. Those sheer kind. All of the melon plants are getting larger and I hope I was early enough this year to get a good harvest. The eggplant continues to produce. I planted it last year and it lived through the winter with an occasional fruit and now its loaded. I planted shallots and carrots. The shallots are starting to peak up. Those were sets from Armstrong nursery. I also started seeds but they are too small to plant. I have never had any luck with carrots but I planted three varieties so we’ll see if I’m more successful this year. The two lettuce varieties that are growing best right now are Henderson’s and Landis. The Merlot is doing okay but I’m not a fan of red lettuce.
Freyja has her rabies shot and annual physical on Monday so that will be a day off work. It is supposed to rain on Saturday but looking at the forecast it will be an iffy sort of day as it is between 45-55% prediction.
I think I still have my parent’s dogs Candy and Dolly to go for Friday Photos. And I think Chipper, the family’s first Budgie and Mr Fish, my Goldfish. Yeah, I’m not very creative when it comes to names. I think Diana pawPrints, the Wonder Puppy is about as creative as I’ve gotten. (homage to Diana Prince, Wonder Woman). I do not name inanimate objects so the only car I owned that had a name was a silver 1960 Cadillac that my Mom called the Silver Bullet. Oh, and a vintage coffee grinder just like my Dad’s. He calls his “My Little Friend” as his job as a child was to use it to grind pepper for his Mom. The caddy was sold years ago (no place to park) but my My Little Friend (that I bought on Etsy) is on the shelf in the kitchen. I fixed it up nice and use it to grind both coffee and pepper. Perhaps one of the Friday Photos I’ll talk about my kitchen and the vintage things I use in it. If we get desperate and anyone is interested, I have a trips to Yosemite, Italy, Guatemala and Germany I can write up. I know vacation photos aren’t for everyone.
I also don’t want to monopolize Phriday Photos but will rely on OFA to balance things out.
Hi, Plunderers, et al!
I keep meaning to send Phriday Photos of our middle dog, a Westy named Tassy. But I never get a round tuit. 🏵️. Hope springs eternal. Friday passes and I fuggedaboutit.
Today is Huny Punkin’s 77th birthday, so we went out to dinner to celebrate. It’s rainy and chilly, so now we’re home, hunkered down.
Happy weekend, y’all!
It’s cold here and we just got some drizzle.
Please pass on my warmest Birthday Felicitations to Huny Punkin. While I can’t say I am looking forward to being 77 I will say I am hoping or even expecting to get to 77. It’s kinda inevitable at some point I will be 77.
A night out at a nice restaurant is a great way to celebrate. Hope it was delicious as I know the company was top notch.
Looking forward to Westy photos of Tassy. Maybe if it’s rainy tomorrow you’ll have nothing better to do than write a Tassy bio and look through many photos or even take some new ones.
I’m hoping to get something written this week to add to the queue when OFA needs a filler.
ML, ❤️
