We often do beginnings on Sunday, taking a look at the start of one of my novels. CAT ON A HOT TIN WOOF, the 16th novel – but not the last! – in the Chet and Bernie mystery series – comes out April 14 (preorders make the publisher happy and therefore me). We’re now doing the beginning of each one, going backwards (since the series can be read in any order) and on the 16th Sunday we’ll do CAT ON A HOT TIN WOOF. Today we’re at PAW AND ORDER.
We blasted out of bayou country, Bernie behind the wheel, me in the shotgun seat. Our ride’s a real old Porsche, the oldest we’ve had in our whole career. The last one got blown up; the one before that went off a cliff. And who can remember the one before that? Not me, amigo, except for how loud train whistles turn out to be from up real close.

Ah, the successive replacement of old porches.
So sorry when they all pass but look forward to what is “found” to replace them. Pretty hard to beat martini glasses though. Hmm. Maybe…pink?
False alarm on Freyja. Hopefully she will live another 10 years. But Diana pawPrints has arthritis. Her birthday was yesterday. She is now 7. She is moving from senior to geriatric soon. She doesn’t hurt enough for pain meds yet. I’m looking at giving her some fish oil. That might also help her seasonal allergies. She was 83 lbs which is her ideal weight. Freyja was 52. She lost some weight but her ideal is still four pounds away. The little porker steals food like a Victorian waif. And looks equally innocent when caught.
ML: Good news on Freyja; Franklin is relieved too. Have you considered acupuncture for Miss Diana? Wookie in his senior years had some serious mobility issues tied to back pain and arthritis, probably exacerbated further by the chemo treatment he went through for lymphoma (which was incredibly successful anyway, at least in dealing with the lymphoma) and he regularly received acupuncture treatment particularly while undergoing chemo, with results that were nothing short of miraculous. More recently, one of our neighbor’s dogs was experiencing severe arthritis, to the level that they were considering putting the dog down. We recommended the vet that did the acupuncture for Wookie, and again the results were amazingly positive. Not sure what acupuncture options you may have on the West Coast, but at least give it some serious consideration.
