Snow

No bike ride today! No need to go to the gym – shoveling incessantly will do just fine!

  1. Greetings!

Yep, shoveling earns OFA some time off from the gym. :^) Looks very pretty, though.

Somewhere between 12 and 15″ of snow in this neck of the woods.

    Good afternoon to all!

  2. Things are pretty grim here in Chevy Chase as well. Our problem was the mix of snow and sleet, with nearly as much sleet falling as snow. All together we had about 10 inches or so, about a 50/50 mix of snow and sleet, with the snow first. If it had been all snow, it probably would have been 20 inches or so. The problem with sleet is that it is at least three times heavier than snow, and it freezes much more readily. Fortunately Debbie and I tried to keep up with multiple passes yesterday on our walkway and sidewalk; if we hadn’t we would’ve faced a frozen nightmare this morning, which a lot of others in our neighborhood did. While I feel bad for BidTiny, we will probably not see a temperature above freezing until a week from today, and there is already a hint of another storm coming this weekend, although it is still too early to tell how severe.

Oh, and congrats to Peter on the Patriots win over Denver. I’m sure that warmed hearts a little bit in an otherwise snowbound day.

  3. The one good thing was that it was sleet and NOT freezing rain. So, no power outages to speak off, which would have made things only worse. I suspect our friends on the West Coast (both San Diego and Alaska) are smiling at all this for different reasons – one who is enjoying the warmth and sunshine and the other for whom what I described is probably a normal everyday occurrence this time of year.

  4. It’s business as usual up here in the North. About 9 degrees F and snow falling all day. I have just returned from 3 months in Montana where it barely got below freezing. I missed some terrible cold weather up here and lots of snow. That’s the good news. The bad news is the man-who-lives-in-this-house doesn’t shovel and the path from the door to the sidewalk is a concrete-hard, bumpy, icy mess! He did shovel the driveway enough so that the car can get out.
Hope the storm clears for y’all soon, the power stays on and the shovels are no longer needed. Stay safe and warm.

  5. Dawson: Great to hear from you!
WTAFP: Yeep! The conditions in your neck of the woods was much worse than my neck of the woods. Fortunately, one of our younger neighbors shoveled enough of the snow from the back of Grizz’s car so he was able to back it out of his spot in the parking lot. Good timing, as the plow was right there to clear out his spot. Stay safe and warm.

  6. It’s times like this I’m grateful I have no snow to shovel but can visit it if I want. I did find the chains for the car when I was organizing the garage for the installation of the new door but have no desire to go visit the snow. Plus there isn’t any to visit yet. Once there is, I probably still won’t, so the dogs will just have to do without. They’ll never know.

With the pile of wood gone from the back, I now have dirt to shovel, weeds to pull and cut and bricks to lift to remove the roots. Hoping in February I might be able to move one of the pots with the dwarf citrus into place.

  7. Wose: I came home to the Plunderer calender and Natty. A gorgeous photo. I did not look ahead to other months. I wonder how many I will know and how many I won’t have a clue which 4 leggeds are their friends. I ama bit out of touch.

Big Tiny: Worry about you the most in these storms because Texas is not used to snow, sleet and such. Hope you have power.

WTAFP: All that shoveling is keeping you and Debbie in fine shape.

Mlaiuppa: I look forward (kinda) to moving bricks, digging in dirt and pulling weeds. Our small greenhouse collapsed under the weight of snow so there’s plenty of work to be done.

I went out for an hour and when I returned the driveway had been plowed by some heavy machinery so I can at least walk to the sidewalk without fearing a fall and a broken hip! I’m going to play cards today and was going to walk but I am not acclimated to the cold weather yet and as it is 2 degrees F, I’ve decided to drive.
I know, I’m a wuss. I’ll get a shorter walk in later in the day. Maybe.
