The 2025 Plunder On! calendar is finished. I was able to put together what could be the last calendar with some pictures I had on file, some pictures that OFA posted to the blog, and some pictures that were e-mailed to me. Thanks to those of you who e-mailed me pictures (you know who you are). :^)
If you would like a calendar, please respond to the blog or e-mail me so that I can have an accurate count before I place the order. The cost will be $25. Please let me know by September 30th.
How sad the end of an era is upon us. Really wish we could post photos here. Providing links is a real pain but at least we have the workaround.
It is National Dogs in Politics day (don’t shoot or eat them) and National Checkers day, for those that remember who Checkers was. Or Fala. Or so many of the political dogs.
It is also National Great American Pot Pie day. I will be honing my pot pie skills this winter. I have decided to order a small turkey from the local butcher (Iowa Meat Farms) and not only make myself a Thanksgiving dinner with all of my favorite trimmings but also leftover the hell out of that bird. Open faced sandwiches, pot pie, a lá King and soup it to death.
For Chet, it is National Snack Sticks day. That would include Slim Jims.
We are also entering Seed Gathering Season. I’m not letting anything go do seed this year. I will simply buy more heirloom seeds at rare seeds dot com.
I did jump the gun on National Baker day yesterday. I made the Pan de Bono. Wasn’t as good as I remember but then I did have to modify the recipe a bit. I didn’t have any non-fat or regular milk so ended up using heavy cream. And I’m not sure the Feta was a good substitute for the Moon cheese. I might try substituting ground crunchy Cheetos instead. The temps were also wrong. I think he gave us C instead of F or misprinted or I did. But I think 375 for 25 min works better than 275. 400 for 35 min might be even better. We shall see. I still have half a package of Cotija so may be making this again with modifications. In the meantime, the extra little buns will go in the freezer for future reheating.
I’m ahead of schedule taking down the extra Sweet Bay Laurel trunk and cutting it up for the green bin collection. That pleases me.
Wose!!!!!!!
You know I want a calendar. So happy you were able to create another masterpiece for us. I promise I will make Mom mail the check this week!!!
