Baseball and the Blog

While the subject of baseball has always been a captivating one for Chet and Bernie series, as exemplified most recently by last week’s blog posting from Cat on a Hot Tin Woof referencing Bernie having pitched for Army while attending West Point, truth be told, over the years the subject of baseball has been a pretty important one for the Plunderers as well. Given the geographic diversity of the Plunderers, there have been a lot of favorite teams and rivalries mentioned along the way, from the Colorado Rockies to the St. Louis Cardinals; the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros; the New York Mets and Yankees; and there may even be someone connected with the blog with a fondness for the Boston Red Sox.
Along the way, there have also been some memorable events captured photographically, starting with Rio and Wookie being honored on the scoreboard of a Colorado Rockies game that Rio took Wookie to attend.

Before that game, you had Rio and Wookie properly decked out in their matching and very snazzy bow ties.

And of course, there was the time that Wookie took Rio, SiberH and Wolfie Wigglebut to the World Collection in 2011 (the St. Louis Cardinals versus the Texas Rangers) as memoralized by Rio and SiberH checking out the World Collection trophy, and maybe Rio even getting in a lick of two of the trophy itself.

More recently, Teddy and his best pal Zeta went to a Washington National game on one of the team’s frequent bring your dog to the ballgame nights. While the game itself got rained out that night, it was still great fun for the two of them.

All in all, the subject of baseball has generated some really special memories along the way for the Plunderers on the blog and can be expected to do so well into the future. After all, opening day for 2026 is barely just five months away.

  1. Wow! That husky looks like a miniature version of the guy who was here when I arrived at my forever home. He was so handsome, and he was tickling me just like a great uncle would do. I don’t know where that guy went. Now all I have is this toy husky named Bella.

  2. Natty, that very handsome fellow is none other than SiberH, a very special member of the Plunderers from way back. He lived in Albuquerque, NM, and crossed the bridge long before you would have found your forever home. Among his many notable accomplishments was being the first to bring to our attention some misadventures in the far North of Alaska involving a sled dog known as Whitey Lance, a dog race known as the Iditarod, and a very special place known as Snowhook Kennels, and as they say after that, the rest is history.

  3. We have always wanted to ask Rio if the trophy tasted like chicken or if it is made out of Slim Jims.

WTAFP: We love the photos. If you’ve ever wanted to know what the proverbial angel and devil on our shoulders look like, just look at the photos of the Wookster and Rio side by side.

Siber-H…we miss that guy. Without him we here would have missed out on one the biggest treasures in our history. Sniffle! Snuggle!

  4. What wonderful memories! I wish I had been part of the original Plunderers! Such history and adventures! I’m so grateful that the old timers are gracious enough to welcome late-comers into the very special fold!

  8. LOL. Even in the blog post it comes out Collection. Now we need a secret code for the World S.E.R.I.E.S.

I love the old photos and stories to go with them. I too came to this blog after it’s “Golden Age” as it were by at least the before times when we could post photos and a s.e.r.i.e.s. wasn’t a collection.

I haven’t been following the ball games as I’m not much of a sports fan of anything, except maybe the ice dancing at the Olympics.

    1. ML!…I wish you had joined earlier. I feel that you would have enjoyed what we had created. A real community. ….snort!…..We had so much fun and had so many wonderful discussions. Even if you are not a sports fan like B. Stover, you would have enjoyed our outrageous “get-togethers”…..heh!

      1. Yes, I wish I had too. I’ve been in such “magic” moments in other groups so I get a sense of the wonderful fun you all had together. That is why I enjoy hearing the stories and memories shared so much.
