Our Christmas Eve started out in the traditional way…fishing Rio sleeping on his back out of the vat o’ beer. We were using one of those long pool cleaning nets to get the job done. If you’re looking for a last minute Christmas gift, we highly recommend it. We were a little upset when Friend caught us using our gift to her before we gave it to her, but we quickly slapped a bow on it and placed it in her hands. The perplexed, surprised-not-surprised look vanished from her face, she chucked and took over where we left off.
We grabbed our Protege and her Accomplice by the scruff out of the non-alcoholic vat — we want to avoid being charged with contributing to the delinquency of a Protege and her Accomplice — slipped the water wings they were wearing about their middles and took off so we could meet up with Santa for tonight’s community service. We arrived just in time for the pre-game breakfast. See you all soon!
Thieves. Looks like you have every base covered; no legal ramifications as far as I can see. Nicely done, although I do have bail money on hand if necessary. And a Merry Christmas Eve to one and all.
When Santa saw we had our Protege and her Accomplice with us, he said in no uncertain terms, they could not go with us. Something about liability, them being on the nice list and not being required to do community service. So therefore…we did the only thing we could do. When he wasn’t looking, we snuck off with the naughty list, found our spot and. er, persuaded an elf to scribble ‘+1’ next to each our names. Problem solved.
To avoid detection, we snuck some elves clothing out of the dryer for a disguise. Our Protege is disguised as the head elf and her Accomplice is disguised as our Protege. We’ve been meaning to teach them the finer points of disguises — there is no time like the present.
And, just in case, you can’t read between the lines: Keep the bail money close. We’re probably going to need it. This really is the most wonderful time of the year!
I went to my favorite restaurant, the Kaiserhof and had a lovely meal.
Except when I got there they didn’t have my reservation. Now I had gotten a phone call from them changing my 2:30pm reservation to 4pm because that is when the special holiday menu starts. So I said to change it and at the same time check to the New Year’s Eve reservation in case that one needed to be changed as well. I had made both reservations in October the day of my birthday. Well, the New Year’s one was changed but Christmas Eve had not. They still had me down for 2:30pm. But they did manage to find me a table. It was a small table for two in front of the fire by the Christmas tree. It was not in the quiet room I prefer but in the noisier main room where the bar is but it was fine. Until it wasn’t.
I had an adventurous meal of things I don’t normally order.
I skipped the appetizer as I wanted dessert. I had the pepper steak with a cucumber salad and mashed potatoes. It also came with green beans and a roll really warm from the oven. It was all delicious with my lemonade. For dessert I had Pear Coupe which is a scoop of vanilla ice cream topped by a pear drizzled with Mozart chocolate liqueur, whipped cream and chocolate shavings. The Mozart was surprisingly complementary to the pear and the whipped cream was real heavy cream that had been whipped, not out of a can. I can tell the difference.
The only downside was that they opened the patio half way through my meal, which normally they would not in bad weather, and I was getting a constant chilly draft so I had to switch to the other side of the table with my back facing the lovely Christmas tree.
I did get a lot of compliments on my fancy blouse, a vintage 80s Lawrence Kazar sequined top covered with poinsettias and beading. I love to wear it at Christmas. They used to be quite common but no one dresses up to go out to eat any more. But I still do, especially for the holidays.
I’ll be back for New Year’s Eve an will be wearing a peacock blue sequined top. Because….New Year’s Eve.
Debating whether to add the tiara.
Oh, and I gave Chef bourbon balls and kirsch balls.
Since I’m a day late posting this, hope everyone had a great Eve and your day is even better. May Santa have given you everything you wanted, or at least what you needed.
