The Dog Days of Summer

The dog days of summer are upon us and what better way to spend those days than swimming in one’s very own swimming pool—now known as Franklin’s Pool.
It took some effort to convince my parents (WTAFP and WTAFM) that this was a good idea but I can be very persuasive. And not just any swimming pool, it had to be big and deep and in the ground.
Preferably heated and, as I understand it, salt water is preferable to simply chlorinated pools. Presto, with just a little effort, fully supervised by me, starting last November and finally completed around the beginning of June – voila, such a swimming pool appeared in my back yard. 16×32, about 7 feet deep in the deep end, and with four gradual steps on the front and a bench on the back (which one of dad’s friends now refers to as the Mai-Tai bar, whatever that is). It even has one of those electric pool covers that I can bark at whenever it is being opened or closed.
It has all the essentials, including an apres-swim towel off service to get you dry and it is just great way to stay cool, calm and collected all summer long. I even arranged for some nice landscaping around the pool, with all the plants now having been properly marked by me. And I am very generous, my paw and maw have reasonably liberal pool privileges, with me providing life guard services as necessary.
Unfortunately, none of my four-legged lady friends seem as enchanted as I am. For Miss Tilly, water is a definite no go, and I was only able to coax Miss Mazie to the second step. And Miss Abby simply doesn’t fit through the hole in the fence to be able to partake at all. Fortunately, all is not lost, as some of my two-legged lady friends do come by more regularly to swim with me, including Aunt Julie, Aunt Donna, Aunt Cindy (aka Aunt Precious) and Aunt Leslie. And while Miss Tilly is a no go, her paw does seem to like the pool as well.
