Sunday is for beginnings, where we take a look at the start of a Peter Abrahams novel, including those written under the Spencer Quinn moniker™. Let’s do the first sentence of the brand new Chet and Bernie mystery, CAT ON A HOT TIN WOOF. It kicks things off in medias res – hitting the ground running – but it’s also what the reader might say on first opening the book:
“Whatta we got here?” said Nixon Panero.

By the way, listening to oldies radio yesterday, “Born To Be Wild” came on. Sounded like Steppenwolf was saying ‘Bone To Be Wild’, and, of course, I thought that would make a good C&B book title! That led me down a rabbit hole as these other titles came to mind: A Star is Bone, The Bone Identity, Bone Free, Bone on the Fourth of July, Bone in the U.S.A., Bone This Way, There’s One Bone Every Minute. Couldn’t think of any with ‘Slim Jim’ in the title….
Reba. Those are all terrific suggestions and I think Peter will take notice. And who knows, you may have a special signed copy of a yet to be written Chet & Bernie mystery in your future. Also it is very impressive to learn that you are a Steppenwolf fan. Very cool.
Sneeeze!..I came down from da cloud ta say a few words. .Rio is mostly hiding under da big bed right now because deys are under a Tornado Warning…..yeeeep!….So please say a few prayers for my friend an Rio an dat Mother…..yelp!….It’s been storm after storm lately. But diss is da scariest one so far…..gurgle!….I’ve got dose Thieves detained in Bible Study saying der prayers…..sniff!
