Sunday! Beginnings! Since a cat named Miss Kitty may play a role in the next Chet and Bernie novel (starting up any day now!), how about we take a look at the start of A Cat Was Involved, the C&B ur-text in short story form, available in digital and audio:
“Chet—let’s get a move on, buddy.”
Chet? That was me, and getting a move on was my kind of thing. Plus here at K-9 school they were big fans of coming after your name was called—pretty soon after, in fact, if you wanted a treat. Which I always did. But at this particular moment, I had just lifted my leg, and once started in on something like that, there’s really no stopping till it’s over, as you probably know. I’m not referring to the brief leg lift for marking purposes, over and done with in a flash. This was the other kind, much longer-lasting, and often a peaceful break in the day, where the mind can wander in a pleasant sort of— “Chet!”

Good day to all.
Greetings!
Miss Kitty…brings to mind the character on the TV show “Gunsmoke.” Will the wild west be involved in the next C&B? And will Miss Kitty the cat be a redhead like Miss Kitty the human? :^)
The first day of fall is a beautiful one in this neck of the woods.
Good afternoon to all!
Just finished a book. Think I’ll re-read “A Cat Was Involved” next. Thanks for the post.
The book I just read was “A Borrowing of Bones” by Paula Munier, referenced on a recent book signing video, endorsed with a cover blurb by OFA, first in the Mercy Carr & Elvis (the Malinois Belgian Shepherd) series, and recommended by our own WTAFP and others. It was a fine mystery. But not in the same league as Chet and Bernie reads. C&Bs are also fine mysteries (superior, IMHO), AND they have moments of brilliant humor. AND they are told from a canine point of view. Thanks for spoiling me, Spence!
Reba. A tough comparison, given that Spence, Chet and Bernie are definitely in a league of their own.
WTAFP, exactly!
Hope everyone enjoyed the Fall Equinox and first day of Autumn.
You’d never know it here. 80 today will be in the high 80s for Monday and Tuesday, then high 70s for the next 10. Our Fall is pretty much just more summer. We’ll range from 75-85 for another month or more. I hope so as I have green tomatoes still coming and have still not harvested a pumpkin or a melon. I’ve got baby melons and I got just one cucumber this year, another having been stolen by dogs that shall remain nameless. I have high hopes to getting maybe one watermelon before the cold really starts in permanently.
I’ve still not been able to find any Pippin apples locally, not even for ready money. I am getting desperate and am considering buying a tree and seeing if I can grow my own. If I do, I will likely also buy a Whitney Crabapple and a Damson Plum and maybe either a fig or another apricot. I’ve decided to take some roses out of the back yard and replace them with fruit trees. I have plenty of roses in the front and I would rather have the fruit. I can put a few roses in other places.
It was also World Rhino day and Elephant appreciation day.
Hope you enjoyed some white chocolate.
