Nietzsche and Me

More on the Dark Academia novel I seem to have written before the term was invented. Nat, the small town protagonist, gets a scholarship to an elite eastern college. The small kind, like Williams College. There he takes a philosophy course from the charismatic professor Uzig – called Phil 322, Superman and Man: Nietzsche and Cobain. Each chapter begins with a little something, like an epigraph, from the course. These serve to comment on, reinforce or even subvert what is going on in the story. For example, Chapter 31: “Identify: ‘When you gaze long into an abyss the abyss also gazes into you.’ 2 point bonus question, final exam.”

(The fun I had with this little touch!)

  1. All that deep thinking philosophy stuff is way above my pay grade. I’m too lazy. Give me a good detective novel where a dog is involved and I’m good.

  2. Greetings!

Love the subtitle of this course…Nietzsche and Cobain. Sounds like it could be interesting (a lot more than the philosophy course I took in college). Heh! :^)

Another hot and humid day in this neck of the woods.

    Good evening to all!

  3. I have t confess that it is quite a while since I read Crying Wolf (which bears a 2000 publication date) so I pulled it off my bookshelf and did a quick refresh. What I do remember from when I read it at the time was that it was a taut plot with some amazing and intricate twists and turns, definitely worthy of Nietzsche and Cobain. Probably one of his darker works, but a captivating plot nonetheless. Some of the setting (although I doubt the plot) may even be a bit autobiographical, as noted above, with Peter being a graduate of Williams College then serving as the basis for the fictional Inverness College in the book.
