Peanut

“Tell us about Peanut,” said Bitty. “Was he or she a cat?”
“No.”
“What then?” Bitty said.
Bernie cleared his throat. “An elephant.”
“An elephant went missing?” said Evelyn.
“It’s a long story,” Bernie said.
A long story for sure, which included Peanut and me alone in the desert, me trying to make her cooperate and Peanut not cooperating. She turned out not to be the cooperative type. Also she was capable of peeing entire lakes.
(from CAT ON A HOT TIN WOOF, the upcoming Chet and Bernie mystery – April 14, preorders welcome! In the above passage, Chet, the canine narrator but NOT a talking dog, is referring to the case recounted in TO FETCH A THIEF. Btw, the series can be read in any order.)

  1. I love the reference and Chet’s remembrance. Of course, that subject would be of particular interest to the nation within, such an impressive display being quite memorable.

  2. Fetch!…This is our favorite book of the series…snort!snort!….My friend recently lent it to her chiropractor and this is what she had to say about the author….wheeze!…”Thank you so much for sharing Chet and Bernie!..Tell Spencer I am so grateful for his literary gift that reaches countless souls. If there’s anything our culture needs now is clean, innocent, pure laughter.”….snorkel!
