Sunday? Beginnings! Here’s the start of SCENTS AND SENSIBILITY, a Chet and Bernie mystery now on digital sale for $1.99! $1.99! Imagine! And maybe a nice way to introduce a friend to the series – just in time for publication of the new one, CAT ON A HOT TIN WOOF.
Home at last! We’d been away so long, first in swampy country, then in a big city – maybe called Foggy Bottom – that confused me from the get-go. Is there time to mention the air in both those places before we really get started? Soggy and heavy: that sums it up.
Where were we? Was it possibly … home? Yes! Home! Home at last! Our home – mine and Bernie’s – is on Mesquite Road. Mesquite Road’s in the Valley. Quite recently I might have heard that the Valley’s in Arizona, but don’t count on that. What matters is that right now I was inhaling a nice big noseful of Valley air. Light and dry, with a hint of greasewood and just plain grease: perfect. I felt tip top. Bernie opened our door, kicked aside a huge pile of mail, and we went in.

Under duress, we are spending the day in Remedial Bible Study with Beau. He insisted. So therefore…we insisted on ordering hot wings and a vat o’ beer.
WTAFP: We’d sure appreciate if youse could negotiate a permanent hall pass from Remedial Bible Study for us. Name you Slim Jim price.
Happy Easter everyone. Here in Chevy Chase our lilacs are in full bloom and absolutely gorgeous. A bit early this year, but with such unseasonably high temperatures recently, Mother Nature has accelerated things a bit. We have nine different lilac bushes in our back yard and the view and scent are both magnificent.
As to my faithful clients, I will need to get back to you on that. Dealing with Mother Jail is one thing, but Beau and Bible study is a different matter altogether.
You’re telling us. Full disclosure…we may or may not have yarked to Beau today that of you’ve seen one begat you’ve seen them all. We’re not sure if that helps or hurts your efforts. What we do know is that is when Beau asked Mama Luna to bring out the flip charts. We giggled through the rest of Bible Study which made class go by faster for us and slower for Beau.
Oh, those flip charts!!!
We never expected that Mama Luna would have such a sense of humor. She s full of surprises. We love that about her.
Those lilac bushes sound glorious. I only wish you could post the smell.
I’ve got a few roses blooming. I watered yesterday and the plum tree has blossoms so I might get a plum this year so I can at least tell what they will taste like. Plums vary. I have a few fruits on the Royal Blenheim apricot and the Red Baron peach is starting to bloom (always a stunner) but nothing on either of the Katy apricots. I’m getting pretty annoyed with them. I don’t want to waste water on a fruit tree that never fruits because it never blossoms, and these are even lower chill than the Royal Blenheim. The mandarin has plenty of blossoms so I’ll get even more fruit this year. Yay, as it is delicious. The Mexican (Key) lime also has some blossoms so maybe a little fruit there too. Both grape vines have fruit so I might get to taste each of them this year. So far nothing on the fig. I did get one fruit last year but Freyja stole it before it was ripe enough for me to pick and eat. Yes, she is still alive but on probation. I am getting strawberries.
I had a lovely Easter dinner at the Kaiserhof. Wienerschnitzel and for dessert Bee Sting cake. Biebenstich. First time on the menu. Maybe just for Easter.
My sewing ZOOM classes are over but my sewing isn’t. I will be adding some dresses to my wardrobe. I’ve decided to go back to ballroom dancing this year. Not right away as still too much to do around the house and yard. But likely in the fall.
