Beginnings

We often do beginnings on Sunday, taking a look at the start of one of my novels. CAT ON A HOT TIN WOOF, the 16th novel – but not the last! – in the Chet and Bernie mystery series – comes out April 14 (preorderable). We’re now doing the beginning of each one, going backwards (since the series can be read in any order) and on the 16th Sunday we’ll do CAT ON A HOT TIN WOOF. We’re now at BARK TO THE FUTURE, which begins like so (and will possibly appeal to anyone who went to high school):

“Let’s see what this baby can do,” Bernie said.

And there you have it. Bernie’s brilliance, lighting up the whole oil-stained yard at Nixon’s Championship Autobody. Let’s see what this baby can do. Can you imagine anyone else saying that? I sure can’t. I wouldn’t even try, and who knows Bernie better than me? Sometimes humans talk to themselves, as you may or may not know. Humans have a lot going on in their heads. Too much? I couldn’t tell you. But I wouldn’t trade places. Let’s leave it at that.

  1. Sorry I’ve been out of pocket lately, but I just caught up on all of last week’s banter about moose sculpture. You guys are so clever!
As for today’s snippet, I just love how Chet likes himself, just the way he is. I wish I had that level of wisdom!
Temperatures are beginning to cool a bit in the high desert. Just love that!
    Take care, everybody!

  2. Greetings!

I love the audio book cover!

    Hi, Rebecca!

RIO! I responded to your last post of yesterday, but in case you missed it, I just want you to know I remember Beau. In fact, I was looking at some old pictures on my laptop, and I came across my favorite picture of him. It’s the one where he is resting in Mother’s garden.

    Good evening to all!

    1. Rose!…I always check last nights post before I check todays posts….snort!….Of course you remember ole Beau! Who could forget him?…heh!….Have you seen his show, “Family Law”….wuffle!….I’m sure he thinks he is the star character, which he isn’t…grunt!

      1. Silence!….Well no one is talking tonight so I will just continue with my thoughts….snort!….Once again we are up late watching one of Beau’s shows (so far he’s a no-show!) and both of us realized at the same time the thing we like best about this show is the theme song….heh!heh!….It’s very catchy and the word used over and over is “Uh Oh!”….chorkel!….That could be Beaus’ middle name back in the day. Beau Uh-Oh Black Pug….yeeep!hah!

        1. Ohhh!….Beau just had a close-up shot in the show we are watching!…snort!….He had his long tongue out and a red ribbon tied around his fat neck….gurgle!….I wonder how many stage hands he bit before they got that ribbon on him!…gah!
