Today Plus A Little Something

Today the delayed tour for A Farewell to Arfs, the brand new Chet and Bernie novel, begins at the Avon Free Public Library in Avon CT, 2 PM – hoping to see some of you there. Meanwhile here’s something that just arrived – the cover art to the second Mrs. Plansky adventure. If cajoled I might talk about her, too.

  1. Loretta! Girlfriend! What have you gotten yourself into now? I can hardly wait to join you on your new adventure! And you are blessed with a gorgeous cover! Kudos to the artist.

ML thanks for the ThernaWorks food thermometer. I have a similar one and was doubting its accuracy. I saw a test, I think it was on their website, saying to plunge the tip into a slurry of ice and cold water, checking to see that it registers at freezing point , 32, and mine reads 33, so I suppose I can settle for that. The article says if it is accurate at that point, it will be accurate for all temperatures. It says not to rely on boiling point, as that changes with altitude. I had not thought of that! I enjoy your posts so much, ML! What is the background of Caesar’s garden?

    1. Caesar was my first dog, my Forever dog. He lived to be 12. Doberman/Labrador cross. The neighborhood loved him. He was smart too. He would bark at any strangers that come on the properties to the north and south of me. He learned who lived there and who didn’t so would alert to strangers. Only took him a week to learn when a new tenant moved in.

He passed quite suddenly of cancer. While I was grieving I decided to make a garden outside my dining room window as it sticks out and his favorite spot was to lay under it in the shade where the ground was cool and he could listen to my footsteps in the house. It got neglected and overgrown after I retired and was spending so much time at my parent’s house and also had some periodic issues with my back. I’m reclaiming it now. I’ve removed the wild papyrus or whatever they are and am using a cultivator to rake through the dirt to make sure all of the roots are gone. I’m not going to plant or replace any of the garden art until after I finish trimming the trees as I don’t want branches to break anything or bend the ornamental fencing. I’ve pulled that up and will be buying a few more panels to completely enclose the space. I need to relocate some of the plants from the front south planter as it is too crowded and they are too big. So likely the white Calla lilies and at least some of the Iris will be transplanted to Caesar’s Garden in the spring right after I do the pruning.

  2. Love the title (even though none of my suggestions were accepted). I can only imagine what is in store for Loretta now. Maybe the third book will be titled “Mrs. Plansky Unplugged.”

  3. Ah, so now we know the title. I imagine the word Rogue appeared at least once in the many posts we had on the subject of titles.

Happy National Lemon Meringue Pie day.
