Chet and Bernie can come in handy! This, from reader Carey Nelson Handley:
“Got to the Social Security office 30 minutes before they opened. I’ve been here for an hour and 20 minutes. Got excited because I was called fairly early but it was only for triage. Back to waiting.
I’ve got less than 100 pages in “A Farewell to Arfs” by Spencer Quinn, the latest in the wonderful Chet and Bernie series (Bernie being a P.I. and Chet being his faithful canine investigator and narrator of the series). Great book, as they all are.
The question is whether I’ll have time to finish the book in the waiting area of the Social Security office.”

Greetings!
Waiting at the Social Security office? My bet is that you will finish. :^)
Happy Friday the 13th to all!
Good day to all.
Oh, she’ll finish and then have to read 8 year old magazines, probably National Geographic and Family Handyman.
Today is National Peanut day. Does not mention if peanutbutter counts.
It is also International Chocolate day. The perfect combination, chocolate and peanutbutter.
It is Pet Birth Defect Awareness day.
Lastly, National Celiac Disease Awareness day. Not as prevalent as you might think but very difficult to diagnose.
I have a nice recipe that is completely gluten free. No reason except it is an ethnic recipe. I imagine they didn’t have wheat, rye or barley in the ancient New World.
Pan de Bono
(Columbian Cheese Bread)
1 1/2 cup corn flour
1 1/2 cup tapioca flour
1 1/2 cup yucca (Casava) flour
1 pkg queso Ranchero
1 pkg moon cheese (or Feta cheese)
1/2 pkg queso Cotija (do not substitute)
2 eggs
1/2 cup non-fat milk (or regular milk)
1 pkg brown yeast mixed in 2 oz warm water with 1/2 tsp sugar
Add all ingredients together. Mix well until soft dough. Wait 20 min.
Make small amounts of cheese bread. (Traditionally, roll into little balls.)
Bake 275 degrees for 25 min.
Should be brown in color. Serve hot.
Good for breakfast or with coffee.
Got this recipe at a library workshop. The last day we were invited to bring an ethnic family recipe. Our only male participant brought this and everyone raved so much he shared the recipe. There are many versions on the internet but I remember this being delicious. Who knew it was gluten-free? I have the ingredients so I’m going to be making it in the next 10 days because the weather is cool enough to do some baking. Going to use my food processor. And I love cheese. And bread. And this is cheesy bread.
