I’ll be at the South Yarmouth (MA) Library this Saturday, Sept.21, from 11 AM till noon, bloviating and signing books – A Farewell to Arfs and Mrs. Plansky’s Revenge – thanks to Brewster Book Store. The weather looks good and South Yarmouth – actually north of West Yarmouth, which is how we do things on Cape Cod – is very nice. And not far from West Dennis Beach. The water is still very swimmable! Sort of! The photo – West Dennis Beach at sunset, with beachgoer.

Nice photo.
Good day to all.
Does your wife know you’re cheating on her with a French redhead? Don’t blame you.
So much going on today. It is Constitution day. Ratified in 1787. Seems we should be celebrating September 17 as a national holiday. I Am An American day, was moved from May to combine with Constitution day as Citizenship day.
It is also National Pet Bird Day and National Pet Carbon Monoxide day, which is kinda strange given the history of pet canaries.
Lastly, it is National Monte Cristo day, for those of the grilled sandwich enamored and National Apple Dumpling day. I’ve just attempted to order an entire crate of Pippin apples because those are the only kind ai bake with and it is getting near impossible to get them in So. Cal. I did not hear back from Windmill Farms so will have to call them and if that’s a bust, start trying other stores. I never did hear back from Volcan Farms in Julian, plus not really looking forward to that drive if that is my only source.
I just went back and read all the readily available posts made to this beautiful blog over the past few days. I always think I’m up to date, but some sneaky Pete will add a post after my visit. Sure enough! I learned quite a few new things! Just as I suspected, ML does spreche Deutsch! And our attorney knows the secret to a good marriage! I had to print ML’s recipe for red sauce. Yum! As for the above picture, how pretty is that sunset scene? And isn’t that apricot poodle the height of something or other?
ML knows how to use Google Translate. I don’t remember much of my high school German even though I took it for two years and have visited Germany four times since then.
I made the red sauce and while it smells great in my opinion it is too thick, although it could have been the pear tomatoes I was using and I cored them. Next time I’ll just slice them in half. I will also reduce the times, only an hour at 300 and I might not roast them at all at 400. If I do it will only be for 15 min. I had to add more Chianti and olive oil when I processed it as it was too thick for me. Luckily I have enough tomatoes on the bush for a second batch.
Volcan Farms ended their apple picking season early as all of the apples are gone. I have two feelers out. Another farm in Julian but they won’t be open for picking until mid October and quite pricey. I’m hoping a warehouse food supplier downtown will have them before that. I’m supposed to call next week to see what apples they’ll be getting and if they can order me any Pippins. If they can they may become my new most favorite store. If they can get Pippins they could probably get red currants in season too. I made some outstanding jam one year because the Vons in Pacific Beach accidentally got several containers of currants in and I bought them all and make jam. You’d think since we can get produce all year round that we could also get produce that is regional but nope. I’ll bet you east coasters can get Pippin apples and Red Currants and spiced apple rings at Christmas. When Ronzoni had pastina that was an East coast thing too. I had to special order that. Of course, now they don’t have it at all. The other brands are not the same as they are not bronze die cut, plus the pasta itself doesn’t taste the same.
