Lexington Green. Old North Bridge. Do kids still learn this history? Anyway, it’s Patriots’ Day here in Massachusetts, and also in Maine (part of Mass. at the time of the events, separated later as part of the Missouri Compromise, if I remember right). Boston Marathon starting soon, and the Red Sox are at home for their traditional morning game. So Happy Patriots’ Day! It meant a lot to Emerson and still does to lots of others, I hope!
By the rude bridge that arched the flood,
Their flag to April’s breeze unfurled,
Here once the embattled farmers stood,
And fired the shot heard round the world.

Greetings!
Sadly, I don’t think kids are learning this history in school, but I did way back when.
Happy Patriots’ Day Boston!
If you haven’t already done so, don’t forget to file your income tax…
I would also like to wish Friend the very happiest of birthdays!!!
Good Monday to all!
I know history is still taught but it “our day” it was more regional. We don’t celebrate Patriot’s Day on the west coast so I’m not that familiar with it.
It is Tax Day and I certainly remember that but I try to get my taxes done asap as I usually get a nice chunk of change back. Less and less every year but every bit helps.
I’ve always liked that phrase from Emerson.
Good day to all.
Someone marched around our all-inclusive church a few days ago carrying a Confederate flag. Even patriotism can be twisted into something ugly. Also, I am originally from the South and resent the assumption that that must mean I hold certain views. I guess I’m prejudiced against prejudice! I hate hate. Careful, girl! Slippery slope!
A very happy birthday to Rio’s friend.
And thoughts of Emerson also bring to mind Longfellow and Paul Revere:
He said to his friend, “If the British march
By land or sea from the town to-night,
Hang a lantern aloft in the belfry arch
Of the North Church tower as a signal light, —
One, if by land, and two, if by sea;
And I on the opposite shore will be,
Ready to ride and spread the alarm
Through every Middlesex village and farm,
For the country folk to be up and to arm.”
WTAFP: That was one of the poems I had to memorize for school. Thanks for sharing! :^)
Happy birthday to Friend! We made her a deconstructed beer cake which is pretty much a vat o’ beer and a sack of flour and a couple of eggs well set to the side.
Thieves, my favorite kind of cake!
Flour and eggs get in the way of any good beer cake.
Who needs a ride to Rio’s place for the birthday party Friend didn’t know she was hosting? We can blur Plunderers, unless, er, WTAFP youse want to let us have the keys to the Franklin-mobile.
Thieves: Jilly, David and I do! Thank you so much!
Party? Birthday party? Will there be cake?
Along with being Patriot’s Day and Tax day it is also National Laundry Day so that is what I am doing today, along with a little more work on the front planter. I am in the last stretch and today will be sweeping and hosing the walkway to clean it up. Then there is the impatience of waiting for everything to bloom but when it does, it should be glorious and get better each year as everything grows bigger.
For OFA it is also National Rubber Eraser Day, something I am sure he never has to use.
Thieves. Keys are available if and when needed. There’s a good supply of slim jims in the back as well.
WTAFP: Do you want to ride with us or is Franklin going to blur you?
Thieves! What time should I be ready? Promise I won’t wiggle too much.
Woot! Wiggle all you want! We have the Franklin-mobile! We’ll start making the rounds now to pick up everyone.
Vats!…..Bring One Vat O’ beer if by land and 2 Vats O’ beer if by the Franklin Mobile!….snort!…And I on the opposite yard will be….chuffle!….Ready to Dive and spread alarming sounds….gurgle!
Thieves! Copy that!
Wishes!….My friend told me I had to thank you all for her Birthday Wishes….snort!….I just want my presents now….yeeep!
Two vats coming up! We are sending Howie and Hazel early so they can set up the fireworks show for the big bash. So they don’t interfere Rio’s afternoon nap, we instructed them to use the neighbor’s backyard as a staging area.
Alright everyone, Friend gets the first jump into the vat. Then, have at it!
Jump!….My friend has declined to jump into the 1st Vat O’ Beer but she put the steps up to the side of it for me!Me!ME!….snort!… Splash!…gurgle!
Splash!!! We have one water wing a price about the middle of Howie and Hazel. They are bobbing up and down in the vat.
Watch Out!….Those two are in the danger zone!….snort!…I’m coming in!….Splash! squeak…yeeeep!
Anybody interested in a platter of wings? Burp! Let the gassy pug games begin!
Splash zone! We have umbrellas for those not want to get wet. Reba? ML? Wose? Do you want umbrellas or water wings?
Whoa! Whoa! We were so busy with umbrellas that we almost missed WTAFPs swan dive into the vat.
Cool!….WTAFP went in and Howie and Hazel flew out. Luckily, they landed on their water wing thingies……chuffle!
Tuck and roll was the first thing we taught them. That, and how to be forgiven.
We love a guy who brings his own high dive to a party. WTAFP has always been a class act.
