Loco

In yesterday’s comments re Latin, the expression “in loco parentis” came up, meaning in place of parents. Back in my college days it was a fact on the ground. The college could take on the parental role. We translated it as the college could act like a crazy parent. And it often did! But we the boy/men of the Berkshires, could be pretty crazy too! (No female Ephs back then, perhaps the root of the craziness.) Also the legal drinking age was different then. And as I kind of remember not even the same in the 3 area states – Mass, VT, NY.
