More on Etta Kohn, the retired crime beat reporter appearing for the first time in A Farewell to Arfs, but I’m pretty sure you’ll be seeing her again in the Chet and Bernie series. WTAFP, an old friend of the blog, suggested I got the name Etta from Etta James – a singer I love, but that wasn’t it. I mostly just wanted an old-fashioned sort of name. If any, the influence came from Etta Place, what with the western outlaw angle and all.
“Do you still keep that index?” Bernie said.
“AZ Desperados A to Z?” said Etta. “I do, but now it’s just a hobby.”
“We’re looking for someone.”
“You must have contacts at Valley PD,” Etta said. “Rick Torres? Lou Stine?”
Bernie gazed at her and said nothing.
“Bernie, Bernie, Bernie,” she said. “Still walking on the wild side.”
“I wouldn’t say that.”
“Of course not—that’s part of the syndrome.”

LOL.
Good day to all.
Greetings!
I like Etta…she’s a nice addition to “Arfs.”
A very pretty fall-like day in this neck of the woods.
Good afternoon to all!
Uh oh. A new female? Why do I think the engagement isn’t going well?
It is 96 and has been for three hours with no drop. Supposed to break tonight and tomorrow should be 10 degrees cooler and then Wednesday 10 degrees cooler than that. I hope so. I need to get back outside and do more pruning.
Today is my Day. It is California Admissions day. I like our flag but it makes me sad as it depicts the California Grizzly which was hunted to extinction in the 19th century. Perhaps that is why California is more environmentally sensitive, because we killed off the symbol on our state flag and are constantly reminded of it.
It is National Wienerschnitzel day. No, not the hot dog. The real deal. I alway go to the Kaiserhoff on my birthday to have it for dinner along with some käsespätzle. It is also Steak au Poivre day. I’ve never had it but I think I might either find a restaurant that serves it or maybe try to make it myself. And lastly, it is Teddy Bear day. I collect Steiff bears among others so today is really my day.
Ha. I found three French restaurants the make Steak au Poivre but they all call it Steak Frites. Not areas I wanted to try to find parking in and two had mixed reviews. And then I looked at the Kaiserhof menu and they have Pfeffer Steak and it is Steak au Poivre. I know their chef is excellent so I may have to go there twice.
They are closed on Mondays so not today. It is still so freakin’ hot it may not be for a while. High today was 98. It is supposed to break tonight. 10 degrees cooler tomorrow and another 10 degrees cooler on Wednesday. At least the humidity dropped to 28%.
