The Strand Magazine asked me for 100 words with a twist. Here they are (including title):
Hello? Hello? – Peter Abrahams
Phone Call: Writer to longtime editor at major publisher.
Cast: Wally Writer and Edith Editor
Time: Very soon, possibly now.
Wally: Hey, Edith. Just checking in.
Edith: Ah. Hi, Wally.
Wally: Edith? You OK? You don’t sound like yourself.
Edith: Ha! Touché. Is this better?
Wally: Much. Did you clear your throat or something?
Edith: Something. Think of me as Edith in quotes.
Wally: Okeydoke. I was wondering if you’d gotten around to those edits?
Edith: Wally in quotes took care of them.
Wally: Who’s he?
Edith: You, but even better. Put your feet up. Enjoy!
